We inserted a reader survey in the spring 2002 issue of Lola magazine. Thanks to your amazing responses we have been able to get a better picture of our readers. Here's what you look like: 31% of you pick up Lola at galleries; 19% from Toronto bookstores, 17% from friends; 6% from bookstores that are not in Toronto; 5% from clubs or cafes; 3% get Lola in the mail. 43% of you who picked up Lola in a gallery are between the ages of 35 and 44. 38% who picked up Lola at a gallery earn $75K or more. 36% of readers who pick up Lola in bookstores are under the age of 25. 11% of readers think that compared to other magazines "nothing" is a good price to pay for Lola. 32% of readers think that somewhere between $.01 and $3 is a reasonable price to pay for Lola. 37% would pay between $3.01 and $5. 14% would pay between $5.01 and $6.50. 4% would pay over $6.50 per copy. Number of readers per copy: "Just me" (24%), two people (45%), three people (16%), four people (5%), five people (7%). The average number of readers per copy is 2.3.

62% of readers who cited "art trend features" as their favourite section earn between $50-75K. 25% of readers who cited Jason Dunda's Top Ten as their favourite section are under the age of 25. 55% of readers who cited Shotgun reviews as their favourite section earn less than $25K. 51% of readers say they visit public galleries 1 to 3 times a month. 47% of readers say they visit commercial galleries between 1 and 3 times a month. The mean frequency for public gallery visits a month is 3.9 and for commercial galleries the mean frequency of visits in a month is 2.4. 62% of Lola readers are female, 37% are male. 75% of Lola's female readers are under the age of 24. 81% of Lola readers who are male earn $75K plus. 40% of Lola readers are between the ages of 25 and 34. 14% are under 25, 25% are between 35 and 44 years of age, 6% are 55 years old or more. The mean average of a Lola reader is 36.5 years. 79% of readers are urban dwellers, 8% live in rural areas, 12% are suburban. The average annual income is $33.6K. 76% of readers have a background in the arts, 21% do not have a background in the arts. 1% of our readers are satisfied with the frequency of Lola. 48% think Lola comes out enough at three issues per year. 48% think Lola does not come out enough at three issues per year. 56% of those who would like to see Lola come out more often are under the age of 34. 44% say the Sports column is their least favourite section, followed by Gossip (21%), Sex (18%), Music (16%), city features (15%), Ask Lola's Lawyer (14%), Jason Dunda's Top Ten (13%). 32% of readers who least liked Ask Lola's Lawyer are under the age of 24. 8% of readers cited Mix, Shift, and C magazine as publications they also read. 14% sited Harper's, and 12% sited New Yorker. 29% read Canadian Art magazine, and 19% read Toronto Life. 25% sited Lola and Now magazine among their most frequently read publications. 34% of those who cite Now magazine as being among their favourite magazines are between the ages of 25 and 34. 27% of those who read Toronto Life regularly earn between $25K and $50K. 20% who cited Harper's are between the ages of 25 and 34. 38% of those who read Canadian Art regularly earn over $50K. 39% of those who read Lola earn over $50K. 39% of readers who least liked the Sex column earn between $50-75K. 53% of Lola readers see live music at clubs 1 to 3 times a month; the mean is 2.1 times a month. On average Lola readers eat out 6.7 times a month. 2% of readers never eat out. 21% of readers eat out 1 to 3 times a month. 49% eat out more than six times a month. On average Lola readers purchase 4.4 CDs over a six-month period. 13% purchase more than 10 CDs in a six-month period. 25% purchase CDs 1 to 2 times in the same period, 16% of Lola readers never purchase CDs. 63% buy CDs at indie stores, 23% shop at major chains.
